The World State: A Big Idea in the Legacy of Science Fiction

Photo of Tad Daley speaking at L A con 5, the 84th WorldCon.

Is human history headed toward something like a world government? Many towering SF authors, such as HG Wells, Isaac Asimov, Gene Roddenberry, Liu Cixin, Ada Palmer, and Becky Chambers, have brilliantly portrayed the abolition of war through the unification of humankind. If SF writers can make that seem so believable, can we envision something like a world republic as part of the real unfolding future of humanity? Presented at LAconV, the 84th World Science Fiction Convention (WorldCon).
